This is an old rotary compressor from a large Panasonic window-box AC unit, I have sliced the housing length ways with a 4" grinder and slitting wheel and dismantled it as far as i could to show you what it is made up of. One thing that sets these compressors aside from reciprocating (piston) units is that the outer housing is the "high" side of the HVAC system, unlike the reciprocating units where the housing receives the low temp gas from the evaporator and discharges High pressure, High Temperature gas through a tube, straight to the condenser.
